Biographical Sketch: Mike Grant is a senior engineer in Duke Energy Carolinas' Distribution System Planning Department. He has been employed by Duke Energy for 35 years. His responsibilities include directing the Southern Region ESD (electric system design) engineers, technical support for Duke Energy’s Storage Projects, the NC Solar PV projects, and business lead for other distribution system planning services. While he was in the Distribution Technical Standards group, he supported Duke’s voltage regulator and line capacitor standards. One of his earlier assignments was system development for Duke’s Distribution SCADA R&D Project. He continued in the Automation Design group of Power System Automation and Metering Department working on substation and distribution automation projects.
Mike has presented papers on topics addressing integrating renewable generation onto the distribution power grid at the 2008 American Power Conference in Baltimore, Md., the 2009 Power Systems Conference at Clemson University and the 2010 Electricity Storage Association in Charlotte, NC. Additionally he serves as a utility advisor to EPRI projects Program 94 Energy Storage and Program 174 Enabling Integration of Distributed Renewables.
Mike Grant graduated from North Carolina State University in 1975 with a BS Electrical Engineering and graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 1985 with an MBA.
